History of
Excellence
A thirty-second brand film for Second Baptist School, built from a year of scripting and fifty years of archive footage.
Second Baptist School wanted a brand commercial that could hold thirty seconds without feeling rushed — something that captured the school’s values, legacy and community rather than just its buildings. We spent months on the script alone, cutting it down until every word in that window earned its place.
Rather than build the film only from new footage, we went into the school’s own archive and pulled historic images and footage to weave in alongside it. The past and present sit in the same cut, and the film moves fast — full of energy rather than nostalgia.
Second Baptist opened its full archive to us, decades of it, and trusted us to find the handful of images that belonged next to the new footage.
— Second Baptist School, on the archive access
A small, agile crew filmed the bulk of it in a single day, planned scene by scene for energy and movement. A stills photographer joined the shoot to work alongside the video crew, and every shot was chosen with an eye toward what would sit well next to the archival material in the edit.
The archival and new material blend into one continuous piece — fast, alive, and unmistakably about a place with fifty years behind it rather than a school that opened last spring. It went on to win a Telly Award — Bronze.
