With deep family ties to a history of rum distillation enriched by deep respect for tradition, Bayou Rum is reinvigorating the world of rum making.

My most recent project is one grounded in storytelling and history. It highlights the story and the people behind Bayou Rum, a craft distillery located between Lafayette and Lake Charles.

Head distiller Reiniel Vicente walked us through his past and his involvement with rum making since the age of 13. Born in Cuba, he grew up with a father who worked as a rum distiller. At Bayou Rum, he follows in his fathers footsteps. Reiniel speaks with great emotion and passion when sharing of his late father, often drawing parallels between the two of them. He hopes to craft with that same level of passion and skill now that his father showed when he watched him as a child in Cuba.

We showcase their intricate process that is rich with intentionality, skill, and labor. With striking shots of the nitty gritty details behind the scenes, we shine a new perspective on the passion amidst the workflow and environment of Bayou Rum’s facility. The drive and dedication that reside in this facility are palpable as they work hard to utilize traditional rum making methods combined with state of the art technology, all the way from fermentation to bottling and everything in between.

Bayou Rum itself is a project of passion and will, and we encompassed it in all of its glory via aerial shots and close-up views of the delicate steps involved in producing rum that has earned its title of #1 Craft Rum in America. This project has been truly special to be a part of, to be even one small part of sharing the story of Bayou Rum and getting to know about Reiniel and his life.
